Learning Theories

This knowledge base introduces the three predominant theories of learning and instruction- behaviorism, cognitivism, and social learning. Each theory is discussed briefly to provide explanation on ways individuals learn.

Behaviorism

This learning theory is mainly concerned with the observable and measurable change in human behavior. It focuses on responding to environmental stimuli where reinforcements can strengthen or weaken it.

Cognitivism

This learning theory is mainly concerned with the mental representations/associations that are unique to individuals. It focuses on acquiring and organizing new information and connecting it to prior knowledge.

Social Learning

This learning theory is mainly

concerned with observing the behaviors of others and the outcomes of those behaviors. It focuses on the social interactions with the environment to construct behavioral patterns.
