Strategies in Educational Project Management

I learned the project management plans and strategies that address common issues when managing a project. This course described project management terminology, phases and activities, models, tools, and issues that helped in developing a project plan. The individual and group learning activities sufficiently developed my understanding of the course content.

My Experience

Managing educational projects can present distinct challenges and contexts not accounted for in standard project management practices. I had very little knowledge of formal project management prior to this course, so I found the materials clear, well laid out, and explained in details all the fundamental of the PM role. The readings and video presentations that were provided in order to study on our own time were helpful to organize the new concepts and remember the content in each phase. The templates helped us in achieving tasks on a deadline and it saved us time, since we didn't have to think of a specific layout.

The way lessons were organized and presented is a great kickstart to anyone who desires to have a management role or anyone who just want to understand a good streamlined project management workflow, but I felt few more sessions were needed. It could have been better if there are elaborate sessions on some of the topics with the entire class, not only with the group, in order to increase the general pool of knowledge. We had a bit of difficulty at first, in understanding the CPM and Gantt charts, so a little more detailed resources and/or activities could have helped us earlier in the process. I think more real practical examples/ advices and exercises in using these tools could be helpful to learn technical skills that can be applied further in managing actual projects.

Overall, this course is really helpful for beginners, like me, with well explained concepts and examples. I now know the resources to review when I am in charge of a project or keeping track of one. I felt like I gained a solid foundation to continue with more in depth courses for project management.
